Renowned artist Yayoi Kusama has died. She held her paintbrushes until right before she died. She suffered hallucinations during her childhood. Kusama turned those youthful visions into famous art. Polka dots served as her main motif. They appeared across her many paintings and sculptures.

Kusama won the Praemium Imperiale award for her achievements in art. Her work was widely celebrated. One creation, the Red Pumpkin artwork, grew into an icon of Naoshima island. She kept working until her death. She created art rooted in her early childhood experiences and her signature polka dots.
