Stargazers can now spot the opening Perseid meteors ahead of the main event. The light show peaks in mid-August next year. First glimpses will be tough, however. The bright moon now washes out subtle flashes. Go for darker hours near the high point. The best views come from dark sky spots away from cities. Clear nights could show up to 100 streaks per hour at the crowded peak.
